"Even little things have their peculiar grace."~Proverb

There's something so seductive and captivating about the sand on Cape Cod Bay. I love its smoothness, and the way it gracefully stretches toward the horizon anticipating the next tide. The pools of water trapped between the ripples make the landscape appear otherworldly and majestic. I could stay here for hours. . .and I have.

"The past is a work of art, free of irrelevancies and loose ends."~Max Beerbohm

These are just a few of the images I took from the Fourth of July parade in Orleans. This was my first time at this parade. Even though I've lived in Brewster for almost three years now, I've always stayed pretty loyal to my home town parade in Chatham, and to be honest, I don't think any other parade will ever compare.
There's just something about that small town feel in Chatham that you can't get anywhere else; knowing most of the people on the floats or bumping into old classmates and friends that you haven't seen in years. I didn't know anyone at the Orleans parade and definitely didn't recognize anyone on any of the floats either. But I don't think any town on the Cape is or will ever be as close knit as Chatham was while I was growing up. To not know the people around you by name would have been unthinkable back then. It was comforting in a way too. It was home.

"O years, gone down into the past, What pleasant memories come to me. Of your untroubled days of peace, And hours almost of ecstasy. "
~Phoebe Cary

keeps up a kind of daylight in the mind,
filling it with a steady

"The air of summer was sweeter than wine."~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

There’s something almost majestic about the night. Especially tonight with the fog. . . the way it eerily creeps its way through the weeds and covers the earth like a wet blanket. There’s no wind. The street lights cast their hazy, halo-like glow through the mist, mirroring their reflections in the puddles beneath them. It’s quiet. It’s the kind of deafening silence that makes you feel as if you’re the only person left in the world. . .

The fog evokes a feeling like I've been here before. It's mysterious and otherworldly in some way. . . like something you'd read about in a fairytale.
